  5. The MacArthur Center Podcast

    The MacArthur Center Podcast

As The MacArthur Center for Expository Preaching at The Master’s Seminary opens its doors, season one of its flagship podcast will tell the surprising, providential, compelling story of how John MacArthur became synonymous with expository preaching. From his first sermon at Grace Community Church on February 9, 1969, through his 52 years of relentless, verse-by-verse exposition from the New Testament, John has modeled a simple idea: that the Bible is clear and the preacher’s task is to patiently explain that meaning to his audience. This documentary-style season will look at Grace Community Church, which during John’s 52-year ministry has grown from a small, nondescript church in the middle of the San Fernando Valley into one of the largest, most influential churches in the United States. These eight episodes will tell the story of John’s calling into pastoral ministry and explain why, and how, he preaches the way he does. It will also trace his involvement in controversies and look at how he preaches during cultural upheaval and personal suffering. Don’t miss season one of The MacArthur Center podcast.

    Suspicion: 40 Years Cold

Suspicion is the Toronto Star’s investigative true crime podcast. Season 3, "40 Years Cold," is a 4-part series. Four decades ago, two women were killed in their Toronto homes. Despite their efforts, police couldn’t trace any leads and the cases went cold. Then, nearly four decades later, science changed the way police close in on a killer. In this season, crime reporter Wendy Gillis and court reporter Betsy Powell take you through the nights of the murders, the tragic circumstances of a murderer, and the stunning conclusion of a 40 years long cold case. Season 2, “The Billionaire Murders: The hunt for the killers of Honey and Barry Sherman,” is a 9-part podcast probing the strange case of the famous Toronto couple who were found strangled in their Toronto home in 2017. For five years, the Star’s chief investigative reporter Kevin Donovan has covered the Sherman case, fought court battles to access documents on the police investigation and the Shermans and their estate, and wrote a book about it. Suspicion season 1, Death in a Small Town, was also hosted by Donovan. What began as just another day for the McLellan family would end with their youngest son clinging to life in hospital and a cloud of suspicion hanging over his mother and father.

Rover (Part One), The by Aphra Behn (1640 - 1689)

The Rover, or The Banish'd Cavaliers, is a play in two parts written by the English author Aphra Behn. The first part features multiple plot lines, dealing with the amorous adventures of a group of Englishmen in Naples at Carnival time. The "rover" of the play's title is Willmore, a rakish naval captain, who falls in love with a young woman named Hellena, who has set out to experience love before her brother sends her to a convent. Complications arise when Angellica Bianca, a famous courtesan, falls in love with Willmore and swears revenge on him for his betrayal. Meanwhile, Hellena's sister Florinda attempts to marry her true love, Colonel Belvile, rather than the man her brother has selected. The third major plot of the play deals with the provincial Blunt, who becomes convinced that a girl has fallen in love with him but is humiliated when she turns out to be a prostitute and a thief.
